Companion Planting Veggie Garden
Leona Valley, CA
July 2024 - Leona Valley, CA
This High Desert garden showcases a variety of low-water strategies and eco-friendly practices, such as a drip irrigation system and mulch to help retain soil moisture.
A key part of our approach is companion planting—pairing specific plants to naturally support each other’s growth and reduce pest problems. Around our seasonal vegetable beds, we planted marigolds and zinnias. These vibrant blooms not only brighten the garden but also play a vital role in pest control. Marigolds help deter nematodes in the soil, while zinnias attract beneficial insects that prey on harmful pests.
